New release album

Released last month, Love, the new album by rock band Angels and Airwaves, seems to be a slight departure from the punk-rock style of Tom DeLonge. The blink-182 band member has embraced a “space theme” for new tracks via his latest musical endeavor.

Other notable tracks featured on Angels and Airwaves’ latest album Love include “Young London” and “Moon-Atomic.” One ballad in particular, “Soul Survivor (…2012)” takes fans on an imaginative adventure about the end of the world. Universitychronicle.com notes that, “Somehow, with their uplifting lyrics [they] could make someone forget they were about to be extinct.” The same article also notes that this new sound works for the band, noting their focus on “love and appreciation of multiple aspects of life.”

Angels and Airwaves are gearing up for a spring tour alongside Say Anything starting on April 5 in San Francisco. They will be visiting 39 cities including Kansas City, Cleveland, Chicago, Detroit, Rochester, Portland and Seattle, among others.

Once blink-182 declared a hiatus from recording and performing, singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge ventured out and formed his new musical project, Angels and Airwaves. The group made its official live debut at Glass House in Pomona, Calif. Their first album, We Don’t Need to Whisper, gave fans a taste of what to expect from the newly formed group, with songs like “The Adventure,” “The War” and “The Gift.” The lyrics were highly passionate and reflected dreamlike content and an emphasis on the universe.

Angels and Airwaves then released I-Empire which, although not quite as popular as their first effort, spurred a U.S. tour with festival performances on the Warped Tour. The album featured the singles “Call to Arms,” “Everything’s Magic” and “True Love.” They further built upon the themes of the universe and space on this release, garnering more attention for DeLonge and Angels and Airwaves.

Love, their latest, was aptly titled for its release on Valentine’s Day. It was released free of charge and contains 11 tracks. DeLonge noted on his website that the album features a progressive rock sound: “Things happen unpredictably and take you to these epic soundscapes. It’s very much in the spirit of Angels & Airwaves, but it sounds way, way more thought-out and way more ambitious.”

Last year Tom DeLonge joined fellow blink-182 members (Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker) on the stage to announce a reunion tour, which they conducted through last year. They also spent time in the studio recording a new album. Between that and the new material from Angels and Airwaves, DeLonge has managed to keep busy.
